RedArc Nurses celebrates its 25-year anniversary this week and has seen the need for support skyrocket.
Initially, the company supported people as part of the claim process for critical illness. At that time, cancer, cardiac and stroke made up 88% of the conditions they supported; the three conditions combined are now just 29%, as the company offers much wider support for over 40 conditions, and the need has escalated. In addition, they regularly signpost to additional specialist support, and this has grown to over 30 types that are regularly used, including specialist counselling, second medical opinions and practical help at home.
Support for mental health has been one of the biggest areas of growth. Requests for support was virtually non-existent when the company set up, it now makes up 15% of their workload, and the company set up a department of registered mental health nurses to meet specific needs and increasing demand.
There has been a 17-fold increase in referrals across the board. Qualified nurses are not only the first port of call, they look after everyone throughout their journey, whether that’s offering personalised emotional, physical or practical support, navigating the NHS, understanding and coping with a diagnosis for a serious illness, sourcing suitable therapies and services, adjusting to a new normal, rehabilitating or recovering.
Christine Husbands, managing director, RedArc said: ‘It’s a great testament to the quality of the support we provide when we’re appointed to provide help for people on behalf of other companies, be that an insurer, an association or an employer. It’s a win-win, as the majority (95%) of our clients say our support enhances their view of the insurer/hosting organisation, and it’s a relationship we take great care of.
“Celebrating our 25-year anniversary gives us a great opportunity to thank the partners we work with and look forward to the next quarter century!”
